The highlight is mastered .. More

5th Section Livigno - Ponte di Legno

Addendum from yesterday did not work, the Internet connection in Passo del Tonale.

Also from our side: deep sympathy for the tragic death of the late actor und Transalp Challengers Heinrich Schmieder.

Even before 8am formed in block C, a line in front of the inlet - really sick. The starting blocks are placed on the total placement, that is, in our case, Block C because we just miss the Top100. However, in Block C Mixed Start, Women's and master's teams, who need up to 2-3 hours per stage more like us. That is overtaking every day hundreds of bikers.
But today, this was doomed, right after the town of Livigno the track, led again, up a ski slope. This was again so very steep that the first 400 yards was pushed - then it is time 5 minutes in one spot until you can continue at all.
Nico himself early in the morning in great spirits

If one adds to a narrow, single track or as narrow bridges will cost additional time. Then when the camera was still set on a motorcycle extremely steep ramp on the singletrack it is difficult to remain calm. So we had about 2 hours after us, "free "Can go and have arrived in our service area. This situation sucks, why is not easily distributed to the exact times of the overall standings, the blocks?
after hour 2, we were really gaining momentum, the pace was good, we found the right groups and were you as work your piece by piece. The runs were the crazy, violent "gravel slopes, which abverlangen a real anything. Extremely steep, extremely rocky with some boulder fields. Similarly, the steep single track, so that one is only complete on the brake. It turns out that we now reached another area: The trails were really rocky, rocky and paved the tubes the trail. Also, it caught us when we tried to go down well, with a yeasty debris part it happened: The rear wheel is not sufficiently balanced, Durschlag, air outside. Although it went on for 2 min 30 drivers are past us. The power density is really hard. Overall, the proposed stage very easily visited by intense runs, the hands were claimed so after 20km exit that one could hardly hold the handlebars and brakes. Many falls were the result, hopefully without permanent injury!
came after 65km then the real Hammer - Passo Mortirolo (known from the Giro d'Italia). The most difficult pass of the Alps see Road Bike . Not really a road, rather a paved forest road. 1500 meters at a stretch at a pitch that we have not seen before on a paved road. But amazingly, we were able to keep our pace and continued to fight until the final descent to Ponte di Legno. The last 10km before the finish was hard again - level and a small increase. But his legs were playing with - after 7:04 we arrived at number 94, the target.

the finish after 7:04, dirty, done but happy

mastered Our Trek Elite hardtail the stage with flying colors!

Now it's time for bike maintenance and reports to write off to bed ... the way we are in Passo del Tonale, right in the ski resort. In summer this is a ghost town. That means tomorrow morning before the start of first-pass 9km downhill to the start. As long as it only goes downhill - great!

flow is not ....

4th Section Scuol-Livigno
We will contact the Press Office in Livigno and do before the pasta party, which was yesterday, moreover, grandiose, show our pictures of the stage. Next to us, just as Hans Rey ...
Pasta Party mountain station Scuol, 3 Section
This morning we went out early because we have not found directly in Scuol one night. That is, one is dependent on the shuttle service (which is the remainder of the regular bus service), because our site is about 450m Ftan Scoul - with the bike after the stage for us to overcome impossible.
This "shuttle service runs every hour then, so we had to be ready by 7:15. Unfortunately, we could then enjoy the wonderful breakfast not in full, the view was huge in the morning sun.
Fantastic breakfast at 6:45 in Ftan
had on time at the bus stop we notice that the bus drove past 5min - correctly. That is then hitchhike to Scuol, thank you again to the Italians by the organization team in Livigno. Our bikes we had in the Parc Ferme, for the second time we have placed the bike there. It has been a strange feeling to leave his valuable and expensive treasure in the morning hoping to be able to take it back to reception.
Before, we were always late to the grid, this changed today. But you are allowed to stand and wait 60min.
grid in Scuol

But then we started last, in the best stage so far this Transalp. Given tomorrow's Queen stage, we went there to calm, but even if we had wanted, it would not go faster. Our average pulse rate decreased from the first stage of 170 beats per minute to now just under 150 beats per minute. We just do not have enough leg strength to be able to keep the tempo high.

pure at 37 ° C and sun we enjoyed probably one of the best biking spots in the Alps, a beautiful single track with lots of flow and in part directly on the precipice of an absolute dream for every biker. The stage was rather flat slopes and many flat pieces - which are located more or less the other teams better. After 4:30 we arrived at the 109th Place finish, it seems as if these swings placements with us. Unfortunately, you could not really relax now, the legs are flat. Blank, no more pressure. And tomorrow's 3500 meters in altitude and 107km want to ... our only dope today the pasta party will be and horse balm. Perhaps this helps us keep your fingers crossed that we survive tomorrow's stage.
make extreme amount of dust flying blind for the runs

Etappe) um 18.30Uhr nach 9,5h ins Ziel kamen – and then glide back in full gear for the pasta party at the top station in Scuol. So far they have gone a stage at 9am. Madness!
... the first reports to the mountain giants gathered today (stage 4) after 5 hours at the first checkpoint (first aid station). That would mean another finish line by about 18.30Uhr. Hats off to the two, they are every morning at the start! It is believed that they need 12 hours tomorrow for the stage.
... there was already at the first stage of a team that suffered a serious defect and summarily a new bike in the next village to buy to be back in the race.
... that Scott Mechanics team ready until late into the night making bikes.
... on 8.8.2010 running on Sport 1 Sport STOKE 9.00-9:30 a mission to the Bike Transalp 2010 (repetition 15/08/2010).
... that constitute an unofficial aid stations Wettessmeisterschaft (in which we lose, moreover, always too much time).
... that Nico could break with his Transalp bag the previous record of 36kg.
